Donnie Wahlberg, 51, shared a photo album on Instagram featuring his wife Alma.

“My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am,” the older Wahlberg brother wrote, in part. “I’ve often said, if you like anything about me, I got it from Alma. I say that, because it’s true. She was, without a doubt, the most loving human being I’ve ever known.”

Along with Mark, Debbie Wahlberg had seven additional siblings. She was born on July 8, 1960, in Dorchester, Boston, Massachusetts, to Alma Elaine and Donald E. Wahlberg. Mark was roughly eleven years younger than her.

Mark Wahlberg described the impact of Debbie’s death on his family as “devastating” in a 2019 interview with ET Canada. As Mark reflected:

“My mom really went into a big, deep depression after my sister passed away…it was a real jolt to her. It was completely devastating. She lost her first-born daughter and was so crushed, so that set her back more. She became more lost.”

The Bostonian continued by saying that airing their reality show The Wahlburgers helped them get over Debbie’s death in 2003. From 2014 to 2019, the show was shown.

Actor Mark Wahlberg stated,

“She’s (his mother Alma) a real people person and retreated [from working in their family restaurant] a little after my sister passed away, but being at the restaurants — shaking hands, connecting with people — and then being on the show [The Wahlburgers], she found her voice again.”

While this was going on, Mark’s older brother Paul told ET,

“The show’s been really good for her (Alma)…She fell in love with all the people who worked on it — she would have them over for dinner and she still keeps in touch with them.”
