A Tale of the Callisto Protocol

A Tale of the Callisto Protocol

Before we get into the specifics, it is worth noting that The Callisto Protocol has undergone a significant shift in its narrative approach. Krafton, the game’s publisher, initially described it as a part of an ever-expanding universe that would eventually include the company’s flagship PUBG franchise.

A space horror game with connections to a modern battle royale shooter? That was always going to be a stretch. And thankfully, it’s been scrapped, as we learned in May 2022 that the game is now taking place in its own world with its own canon.

In this myth, we take on the role of Jacob Lee, a man incarcerated in the dreaded Black Iron prison on Jupiter’s moon of Callisto. A mysterious disease or infection is ravaging the prison population and staff outside his cell.

Once you’ve broken free, you have one primary goal: to make it through whatever hellish events are taking place and leave Callisto alive.

The Gameplay of the Callisto Protocol

And now for the exciting part – The similarities between The Callisto Protocol and the critically acclaimed Dead Space franchise are striking, and the series’ co-creator, Glen Schofield, can be seen in a trailer for the game, further up the page, discussing the plot.

You play as a sluggish man with a health bar on his back, using a variety of projectile weapons with ammo counts projected out of their backs instead of superimposed on an intrusive HUD.

The Callisto Protocol Platforms

The Callisto Protocol looks great, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s exclusive to the latest and greatest consoles; it’s available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

It’s playable on nearly every current-gen system, barring only the Nintendo Switch.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, however, are the ones we recommend due to their improved stability and superior visual quality.

Date of Release of The Callisto Protocol

On December 2, 2022, The Callisto Protocol was released, giving players who wanted it time to get their horror fix before the holidays.

At first, there were whispers that the release date would be pushed back to October 2022, but the development team quickly put those rumors to rest.

It’s interesting to note that the Japanese version of The Callisto Protocol won’t be released because the developers refused to make the changes demanded by the country’s censors.
