On September 28, 2022, Coolio passed away at the age of 59. Given that the average life expectancy for males in the United States is 78, it is logical to question how Coolio passed away and what his cause of death was. In the Los Angeles home of his friend and longtime manager Jarez Posey, the rapper, best known for his 1995 single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” died abruptly.
In August 1963, Artis Leon Ivey Jr., the father of Coolio, was born in Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. After relocating to Compton, California, he became involved in the drug trade as a young adult. But, he was able to escape it by signing up as a volunteer fireman.
Before becoming a pro as a rapper and leaving a lasting impression on the underground scene, Coolio worked as security at the Los Angeles International Airport. Whatcha Gonna Do?, his first song, was released in 1987, but it wasn’t until he signed with Tommy Boy Records in 1994 that his career really took off.
Coolio’s first solo album, It Takes a Thief, reached at Number 3 on the Billboard Top 100 charts with the lead song, “Fantastic Voyage.” It was also heavily played on MTV during what is undoubtedly the network’s Golden Era, and it rose to become one of the year’s biggest rap hits.
