Chip Gaines, of Magnolia Homes, is reviving a social media challenge to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and giving his own hair to Children With Hair Loss in an effort to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
In “Operation Haircut Part 2,” Gaines will have Bailey, a 16-year-old former St. Jude patient, help him shave his head.
Bailey was first introduced to Chip and Joanna Gaines in 2017 when they visited him in the hospital. He had dozens of operations, including limb-sparing surgery, over the course of over a year. Today, he can say he has successfully defeated cancer.
According to the press release, Chip raised $230,000 on social media after donating his hair for the first time in 2017 as part of “Operation Haircut.” Gaines expects a similar result from this new test.
Tuesday, Richard C. Shadyac Jr., president and chief executive officer of ALSAC, a nonprofit that raises money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, sent the following statement to 6 News:

A boy, Drake, was delivered to them on May 4, 2004; then came a daughter, Ella, on October 20, 2006; and finally, a son, Duke, was born to them on May 23, 2008.
