Frozen 3 Released Date And Frozen III Arrives As Disney Faces Significant Budget Cuts

Frozen 3

While everything may be wrapped up well in Frozen 2, there are quite a few hypotheses and speculations on where the story of Frozen 3 will go. To bring peace back to Arendelle, Anna decides at the end of Frozen 2 to destroy the dam.

And with that, Elsa is free to ride the water spirit to Arendelle, where she stops the flood by freezing the water. She and Anna, she says, once they’ve reunited with Olaf, are the link between mortals and the magical folk. Despite this apparent resolution, the future of Frozen remains undetermined.

The Frozen films also feature growth and change in the lives of the two sisters. Finally, Elsa decides to stay as forest protector, while Anna marries Kristoff and becomes queen.

It’s not entirely clear where Frozen 3 will pick up now that peace has been restored in Arendelle and the balance between the people of Arendelle and the enchanted forest is stable, given the film’s ending, which leaves the audience wanting to discover more about Elsa’s talents in Frozen 2. Seven hypotheses about the plot of Frozen 3 are presented below.

Is Frozen 3 Official?

During the First Quarter 2023 Financial Results Conference Call for The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger announced that development on Frozen 3 has begun.

In 2019, Jennifer Lee told Deadline that the Frozen 2 director “felt extremely done,” but she also said, “Time will tell if we have more stories to tell, or if anyone even wants it:” This leaves the door open for a third film in the franchise.

“I know this sounds crazy, but I’m still hoping we did right by ‘Frozen 2’. I’m still in that overwhelming position of, our kids just went out to the world. Everything feels final, but also bittersweet. Time will tell if we have more story to tell, or if anyone even wants it. So, there you have it. [laughs] Right now, I feel very done.”

And Disney wants it by 2023. In any case, that’s not the only sequel the studio wants.

Bob Iger also confirmed the development of Zootopia 2 and Toy Story 5.

Disney has not announced any additional information or a release date for Frozen 3.

When Could We Anticipate Frozen 3 To Be Released?

Even though a third installment of the Frozen franchise has been confirmed, there has been little progress made in determining when the film will hit theatres.

When announcing the new film, Iger said, “We’ll have more to discuss these ventures soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unparalleled brands and franchises” (via Deadline).

Six years have passed between Frozen and Frozen 2, so we can use that as a rough estimate for when Frozen 3 will be released. Depending on how far along development is, fans may have to wait until 2025 for the return of Anna and Elsa.

Wish, the new meta Disney film directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck has yet to receive a release date. While it is unknown, we expect them to be a part of the production team for the third Frozen film.

Who Will Be Returning For Frozen 3?

Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel have stated their desire to reprise their roles as Anna and Elsa, respectively, in a sequel to the Frozen film. It’s also expected that Jonathan Groff will reprise his role as Kristoff and Josh Gad will reprise his role as Olaf.

In addition, we may expect to see the return of Sterling K. Brown as Mattias, Jason Ritter as Northuldra member Ryder, Rachel Matthews as Ryder’s sister Honeymaren, and Ciarán Hinds as Rock Trolls leader Pabbie.

Frozen two may feature expanded roles for Evan Rachel Wood and Alfred Molina as Anna and Elsa’s parents, Iduna and Agnarr, after they appear in flashbacks in the first film.

Despite the film’s confirmed status as of February 2023, there have been no official casting announcements.

Frozen III Arrives As Disney Faces Significant Budget Cuts

There is some bad news for Disney that comes along with these new sequels. Iger is following in the footsteps of Warner Bros. Discovery and making major cuts to the content budget to save money ($5.5 billion).

The multinational corporation is laying off 7,000 workers across all of its divisions as part of further cost-cutting measures related to operating costs and personnel. Disney has reorganized itself into 3 distinct branches: the Entertainment Group, ESPN, and Disney Parks and Resorts.

More details on Frozen III and the other forthcoming animated features were promised by Iger, who explained that Disney is simply making the most of the popular franchises they already own. After the dam is destroyed in the second film, Arendelle will almost immediately be visited by the heroes.

With the Enchanted Forest and the kingdom at peace again under Elsa and Anna’s watch, there’s plenty of potentials for the future film to explore their respective reigns.
