According to a recent claim from the Vietnamese tech blog The Pixel, Samsung is planning to go all out for the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
A Potential Revised Hinge Design For The Fold 5 Screen Might Make It Completely Crease Free
Samsung went all in on its foldable phones when competitors were playing it safe, and the company not only won a sizable part of the market but also learned a great deal in the process. The company has been hesitant to embrace the creaseless design popularised by its rivals for fear of compromising on quality over time. Finally, the South Korean behemoth has found a way to implement this without compromising the device’s reliability.
There won’t be any folds on the Fold 5, according to the Pixel. Samsung has invented a new waterdrop structure, internally referred to as a dumbbell hinge, which allows the main screen to descend into the phone’s body to avoid the internal screen from creasing, as reported by the Korean daily Naver(via @GaryeonHan). The design also makes it possible for the Fold 5 to flatten down when folded. According to The Pixel, the primary display will still be 7.6 inches in size and sport a resolution of 1768 by 2208.

According to the Pixel, the unfolded measurements of the Fold 5 will be 158.5 x 128.5 x 6.5 mm, making it a bit taller and slightly less wide than Fold 4, which measured 155.1 x 130.1 x 6.3 mm. Dimensions, when folded, are 158.5 x 67.5 x 14.5 – 16mm. The folded dimensions of the Fold 4 are 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm, in comparison.
Upgrades To Fold 5 Primary And Secondary Cameras Are Possible
The report states once again that the gadget will weigh 275 grams, which is slightly heavier than the 263 grams of the Fold 4. The source earlier speculated that the larger battery was necessary to accommodate the phone’s upgraded camera hardware, but its most recent report claims that the phone’s primary camera will be upgraded from 50MP to the 108MP unit found on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Samsung can attract people who avoid foldable phones only because of their cameras by including a camera array befitting of a flagship model in its next Galaxy Fold smartphone.
The main camera, it is said, would be joined by a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 64MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.
We recommend taking this with a grain of salt, given Samsung only recently improved the cameras on the Fold 4, but it does confirm a previous report that Samsung would outfit the Fold 5 with improved cameras.
It’s also been said that the Fold 5 will include a dedicated slot for the S Pen and that the holster has been meticulously constructed to keep the device from being noticeably thicker than the Fold 4.
Due to Pixel’s lack of credibility, this news should be taken with a grain of salt. Given that most Samsung phones are produced in Vietnam, the article is nevertheless interesting to read. If the reports about the Fold 5’s features pan out, it will be the greatest folding phone on the market by a wide margin in 2023.
