Date of the Release of Hollow Knight Silksong

Xbox has announced that the long-awaited game Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released before June 2023. A year after the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, the gaming giant has taken to Twitter(opens in new tab) to confirm that, yes, the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released in the next 12 months.

Is a Trailer for Hollow Knight Silksong?

You can watch Team Cherry’s initial announcement trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong from February 2019 up there.

Beginning with Hornet’s kidnapping, the trailer then shows her escaping captivity and roaming open fields and dark tunnels. As seen in the trailer, there are new foes to vanquish, new bosses, to defeat, new friends to make along the way, and new cities to discover, each with its own cast of NPCs and set of quests.

There’s also this second gameplay trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong to enjoy from E3 2022. More glimpses of the game’s mechanics, bosses, and enemies, as well as our old friend Hornet, who has been elevated from friend and foe to playable hero.

The Tale of Silksong

Throughout the events of Hollow Knight, we met Hornet, first as an antagonist and later as an ally (depending on the specific order in which you completed certain tasks), and by the game’s true ending, she was left without the Knight at all.

Since we don’t have a solid idea of what Hornet will be up to, we won’t go into great detail on why for those who don’t know how the game ends (or who got an ending that is less difficult to obtain, which is fair).

The game could be a prequel, in which case Hornet would be moving on to new lands, or it could be a direct sequel, in which case a new “big bad” would be replacing Radiance as the ultimate cause of the gloom in Hollow Knight.

The Gameplay of Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Gameplay of Hollow Knight Silksong

From what we’ve seen in the trailers so far, it’s clear that Silksong will pick up where Hollow Knight left off in terms of gameplay, providing you with a new character to command but maintaining the same fluid movement and quick combat.

Hornet is significantly larger than the Knight, and she appears to have a wide variety of new and exciting moves at her disposal, from grabs and dives to special moves that zip her around on threads manipulated by her needle weapon.

Due to the fact that Hornet appeared in the original game, we aren’t surprised that Team Cherry was able to get gameplay segments ready in 2019; they undoubtedly had a good deal of her design worked out before beginning work on Silksong.

Nonetheless, the first trailer also reveals that there will be at least 150 new enemies to battle, in addition to plenty of new sights to see thanks to an entirely new world to investigate. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the game’s Souls-inspired experience system, in which you could lose a lot of experience if you died at the wrong time, will allow it to recapture the mystery and tension of Hollow Knight.

It is also likely that similar to Hollow Knight, the most dedicated players of Silksong will be rewarded with a substantial post-game. After you finish the main story, you’ll be able to choose between challenging platforming and combat that will make you want to pull out your hair.
