Inside Look: Sony’s Highly Anticipated Next Generation PlayStation Handheld

Inside Look Sony's Highly Anticipated Next Generation PlayStation Handheld

After several days of rumors, Insider Gaming can confirm that a new PlayStation Handheld is being created.

The following PlayStation portable, which goes under the codename Q Lite, is yet another piece of Sony equipment that needs the PlayStation 5. Insider Gaming is aware that the Q Lite employs Remote Play with the PlayStation 5, a feature the console manufacturer has been promoting over the past several weeks, rather than being a cloud-streaming device.

The tweet below confirms what Sony’s next PlayStation handheld:

With adaptive streaming capabilities up to 1080p and 60FPS, the new gadget needs continuous internet access.

Early prototypes of the console’s physical design reveal that it will resemble a PlayStation 5 controller but with a big 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the middle. The gadget has speakers, an audio input jack, volume controls, and other features you would typically find on a portable. It also has adjustable triggers for haptic feedback.

According to Insider Gaming, the Q Lite will launch after the PlayStation 5 Detachable Disc Drive and before the PlayStation 5 Pro. It is currently in its QA phase.

Industry source Jeff Grubb previously stated that Sony planned to announce its “second phase of the PS5”, which was in reference to its next game lineup. Ironically, though, the new detachable disc drive PlayStation 5, Project Nomad (wireless earphones), Project Voyager (wireless headset), and Q Lite (handheld) are all expected to come within a very short amount of time, indicating that this “second phase” is very much true for Sony’s hardware offerings. It’s known that the PlayStation 5 Pro plans to launch during the 2024 holiday season.
