Donald John Trump is the 45th president of the United States (2017–21). Trump was a businessman and real estate developer who had several properties in the New York metropolitan region and elsewhere across the world bearing his name.

One estimate places Trump’s assets at $4.3 billion, with his net worth at $3.2 billion after deducting his $1.1 billion liabilities. Even though his tax records may give the impression otherwise, the ex-president does have tangible assets (mansions, golf courses, office buildings) that generate real money. Trump has long taken delight in his ability to game the tax system, even boasting that doing so “makes me clever” during a presidential debate in 2016.
Where did all that cash come from, and why wasn’t it reported? After the New York Times reported that Trump only paid $750 in taxes in 2017, Forbes finally answered this issue two years ago. Even though Trump’s financial situation has evolved since then, the answer to that question has not.

In 1980, Trump struck a contract with Hyatt, New York City, and the struggling Commodore Hotel near Grand Central Station, allowing him to refurbish and rebrand the establishment as the Grand Hyatt. As a result of the property’s immediate success, Trump is now widely recognized as a leading figure in the local real estate industry.
In 1984, Trump finished building the 68-story Trump Tower, which to this day is home to the offices of The Trump Organization—the building’s inauguration day featured five stories of shops and eateries, in addition to a waterfall that drops 60 feet.

Trump Place, a 92-acre luxury residential neighborhood, is just one of the many profitable enterprises and properties that Trump has owned. There are hotels, residences, and many restaurants and stores at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago. Wollman Rink, a Central Park mainstay, has mainly been successful thanks to Trump’s administration.
But, New York City stated it was cutting connections with Trump after the assault of the U.S. Capitol. A carousel in Central Park, two skating rinks, and a golf course in the Bronx will no longer be operated by The Trump Organization, as announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio on January 13, 2021.
The PGA of America also revoked the 2022 PGA Championship from Trump’s golf facility in Bedminster, New Jersey, in January 2021. European golf organizers announced that Trump’s Turnberry, Scotland, course will “for the foreseeable future” not be considered to host The Open Championship.

Luxury Consumption Under Donald Trump
A three-story penthouse in Trump Tower in Manhattan was home to the Trump family before they moved to the White House, where they reportedly enjoyed an indoor fountain and a door adorned with diamonds and gold.
Forbes speculated that the more advantageous tax and financial legislation in Florida was a motivating factor in his decision to relocate there permanently in October 2019.
One of Trump’s homes is Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, where he and Melania and Barron spent 25 of his first 100 days in office. Forbes estimates the value of the South Florida property on which the exclusive club is built to be $300 million. The property spans 17 acres of prime real estate. Trump paid only $10 million in 1985 to purchase the mansion with its 58 bedrooms, 33 baths, 12 fireplaces, and three bomb shelters.
The $100 million Boeing 757 with gold seatbelts was Trump’s mode of transportation between campaign stops before he had access to Air Force One. Trump’s collection of high-end automobiles has included, among others, a Rolls Royce, a blue 1997 Lamborghini Diablo, and a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
Trump could get around the Mar-a-Lago estate with nothing more than a golf cart. However, it is unclear what is currently stored in the garage. Reader’s Digest claims that previous presidents could only legally drive on private property. Secret Service agents, “skilled in evasive driving skills,” reportedly go them instead.
