Today, April 1, is the second day of the Final Four of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, and it features the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes taking against the No. 4 Connecticut Huskies.
The Hurricanes’ miraculous journey to the championship game has been compared to other “Cinderella” stories from this year’s tournament. They have advanced to the Final Four for the first time in school history after beating the No. 1 seed in their region (Houston) and the No. 2 seed in their area (Texas).
Jim Larranaga’s Parents: Eileen and John Larranaga
Jim Larranaga’s parents are Eileen (Mom) and John (Dad) Larranaga. Jim was conceived by his mother, Eileen, on October 2, 1949. Jim, the basketball coach, is a native New Yorker who was born and raised in the Bronx.
His parents have collectively welcomed six children into the world. Jim Larranaga comes from a family of six as well. They have raised their entire family in the Bronx.
Larranaga’s paternal grandfather was born in Cuba to Basque parents. The Por Larranaga Cigar Company, of which his grandpa was a part, is also a family business.
Concerning his parents’ occupation, there is noticeably less information accessible. It turns out, though, that Jim’s dad, John, worked in insurance at a managerial level.
His mother was the same way; she relied heavily on his father to provide for the family. Jim’s parents are grandparents to four adorable kids. In particular, Henry, Jon, James, and Tia.
Is Jim Larranaga Married?
Liz Larranaga is Jim’s wife. Liz, the stunning beauty, has been cagey about discussing her private life with the press.

Liz has worked in the finance and real estate industries. The two of them met in the 1960s in the Bronx and eventually got married. Back then, Liz and Jim didn’t know each other.
They had met each other during a community dance held by the Bronx Irish Center. Jim placed an asterisk next to Liz, the stunning beauty. They continued to get together after that. After that, Jim asked Liz out on a date.
Additionally, following a lengthy long-distance relationship. They decided to spend the rest of their lives together.
In 1971, Liz and Jim finally tied the knot. The wedding between the couple was small and private. The New York borough of the Bronx played host.

The Larranaga Brothers: Two Men, Two Different Paths, One Family Legacy
Jay and Liz Larranaga have two boys, both named Jay, who were born in 1975, and Jon, who was born in 1980.
Jay Larranaga, the eldest son, starred in basketball for the Bowling Green Falcons in college and later went on to play professionally in Japan. In Greece, he played for Peristeri B.C., and then he moved on to France, Italy, and Spain.
After that, he took up teaching like his father before eventually landing a position in the NBA’s developmental league for overseas players. Before joining Tyronn Lue’s staff as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2021, he worked as an assistant for the Boston Celtics.
“Just really so happy for my dad and my mom (Liz) because they’ve been on this long journey together,” Larranaga said of his father’s return to the Final Four.
Jon, his sibling, also played college basketball before graduating and playing professionally overseas. The Meltzer Group has promoted him to partner after his career in sales.
