According to authorities, an Illinois man dreamed about an intruder sneaking into his home and shooting himself in the head with a.357 Magnum while he was sleeping.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the man ended up being detained because his Firearm Owners Identification Card had been revoked as if cutting himself in the leg were not enough punishment.
On April 10, the incident took place. On that night, about 9:50 p.m., sheriff’s deputies arrived at the residence in Lake Barrington, in the northeastern suburbs of Chicago, in response to a complaint of a shooting.

They discovered Mark M. Dicara, 62, bleeding heavily from a wound on his leg. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after deputies applied a tourniquet, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to investigators, Dicara dreamed that someone was breaking into his house, which caused him to take his.357 Magnum pistol and fire at the person he believed to be an intruder.
According to the sheriff’s office, he shot himself and then awoke with a gunshot wound to the leg. According to the sheriff’s office, the bullet passed through his leg and became lodged in his bed.

The sheriff’s office said that “fortunately, the round did not travel through a shared wall with Dicara’s neighbors.”
Dicara’s home was not the target of a break-in, according to the sheriff’s office, and despite having his FOID card cancelled, he was in possession of a gun.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office then accused Dicara of recklessly discharging a handgun and possessing a firearm without a current FOID card.
Dicara was detained on Monday but was later freed after posting bail.
