Andrew Lloyd Webber’s oldest son, Grammy-nominated composer Nicholas “Nick” Lloyd Webber, has passed away. He was 43.
Andrew posted on Saturday that his son had died, confirming the news to his online followers “Saddening as it is, I must tell you that my eldest son, Nick, passed away only a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital. His whole family has arrived, and everyone here is heartbroken.”
The theatrical icon said on March 18 that his oldest son, whom he shares with ex-wife Sarah Hugill, was “critically unwell,” and that this was why he would not be attending the Broadway premiere of his new musical Bad Cinderella.

After a long struggle with stomach cancer and pneumonia, Nicholas Lloyd Webber, the oldest son of Andrew Lloyd Webber and a Grammy-nominated composer and record producer, passed away on Saturday in London. He was 43.
In a statement, Webber, 75, stated, “His entire family has come together and we are all profoundly bereaved.” “I appreciate your support and prayers throughout this time.”
According to his father, Nicholas passed away in a hospital in the city of Basingstoke in central England. On Thursday, the Broadway premiere of Webber’s “Bad Cinderella” was postponed so that the composer could be with his son and other family members after his death.

The BBC One adaptation of “The Little Prince,” titled “Love, Lies, and Records,” is where Nicholas made his name. In 2021, he helped out with his dad’s “Cinderella” and was nominated for a Grammy for best musical theater album.
Webber’s first wife, Sarah Hugill, is the mother of both Nicholas and his elder sister, Imogen. The senior Webber is a parent to four more offspring.
Composer Nicholas Lloyd Webber Was Nominated For A Grammy
On July 2, 1979, Andrew and Sarah Hugill, his first wife, had their son, Nicholas Lloyd Webber. Their marriage lasted from 1971 till 1983.
Nick has been nominated for a Grammy in 2021 for his work on the original cast recording of “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella.”
In addition to scoring the Mr. Invisible short, the feature The Last Bus, and the BBC One series Love, Lies, and Records, he has also worked as a film composer.
Given his renowned father, he was understandably apprehensive before the 2011 and 2012 performances of his musical version of “The Little Prince” at the Lyric Belfast.
“But I’d just like to think that the show will be judged on its own merits,” Nicholas told The Telegraph. “That’s all anyone can ask for.”
