Housemarque and Sony have announced that the PC version of Returnal will release on February 15, offering players who don’t own a PS5 a chance to visit the dangerous planet of Atropos. The designer has also provided additional information on the PC-specific additions to the game.
Returnal on PC will support upscaling technologies like Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, allowing players to improve the visual quality of the game without lowering the resolution. Nvidia NIS was implemented to aid customers who do not possess a graphics card from Nvidia that is capable of DLSS.
A Statement Related To Returnal PC Requirements
The revised system requirements are the most intriguing portion of the statement, even more so than the release date. In December of 2022, we received our first glance at the PC requirements from Steam, and they were shocking: We suggested a configuration with at least 32GB of memory.
That’s too pricey for the majority of PC players. According to a not-entirely-scientific poll of Steam users, the majority of systems had 8GB or 16GB of RAM installed.

The Pc Gaming And Retro Gaming Inspirations For Returnal
Source: IGN
Beyond that, Returnal‘s gameplay is reminiscent of other PC third-person shooters such as MDK, Max Payne, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Control. Games like that did appear on consoles, but PC was where they truly excelled.
Housemarque is well-known for its arcade games that draw inspiration from titles like Galaga, and Returnal retains part of that style’s DNA. If you’re a fan of the science fiction of the 1970s and 1980s, which inspired many legendary video games, then Returnal might be right up your alley.
The game’s hook is that your character is stuck in a time loop similar to “Cause and Effect,” an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. When she dies, the cycle restarts and you’re pretty much back where you started. In spite of this, some of the information you learn persists from cycle to cycle, allowing you to eventually prevail over your situation after a long and bloody series of defeats.
The player is presented with unpredictable locations, adversaries, and loot, and must make tough decisions with lasting consequences at frequent intervals. These features are characteristic of Roguelike games, a genre that dates back to 1980 with the creation of the ASCII game Rogue for personal computers. Later games based on Rogue’s ideas include action role-playing games like Diablo.
