Sarah Jessica Parker, a native of the United States, shot to fame thanks to her portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City. Parker began her acting career in Hollywood close to 40 years ago, and she now has more than 60 roles to her name.
But her enormous success is due to more than simply her film and television roles. Sarah Jessica Parker’s huge real estate holdings, which she owns with her husband Matthew Broderick, contribute significantly to her wealth. Find out what she has done that has been the most fruitful for her career thus far, and learn how she got started.
Sarah Jessica Parker Net Worth
The actress Sarah Jessica Parker is worth an estimated $200 million. This, however, did not occur instantly.
Parker was offered the role of Patty Greene in the quirky but endearing sitcom after her spectacular run as the famed little orphan on Broadway. Pegs that fit square holes.
Parker, the protagonist, was a dorky high school student trying to navigate the usual teen drama. The show was canceled after only one season. However, it did display Sarah’s humorous abilities.
Her singing and dancing talents were widely known (she trained at New York City’s illustrious School of American Ballet). Now they could see that not only was she funny, but her comedic timing was spot on.
Sarah began to receive offers for film roles around this time. It all started with a little part in the groundbreaking picture about adolescent angst, Footloose. Sarah was able to display her sense of humor and acting chops in these scenes. And she even got to cut a rug!
The sequel, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, starred Helen Hunt and featured her in a supporting role. Among the TV movies she directed are Firstborn.
It was here that she would meet actor Robert Downey, Jr. and begin a 7-year relationship. After that television film, the big screen came knocking once more.
Salary/Profit from “Sex and the City”
Sarah currently earns the most money for each episode of any television character. After getting a pay raise and producer credit before the fourth season in 2001, she set this new benchmark.
As a result of this agreement, Sara made $3.2 million for each episode throughout the show’s final three seasons (2001-2004). Over the course of those three seasons, she shot 46 episodes, earning the show $147 million. She made an average of $4.333 million per episode ($182 million for the final three seasons) after adjusting for inflation.
In the first three seasons, Sara made about $50 million for a total of 48 episodes, bringing her total profits from the show to over $200 million.
Sara made astronomical sums of money for the two films, much to the chagrin of her co-stars. For the first film, Sara made $15 million, and for the second, she made $20 million. Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, two of her co-stars in the first film, made a combined $3 million.
And Just Like That! will return with 10 new episodes in 2021. Sarah was paid $1,000,000 for each episode.
After factoring in her television and movie pay, Sarah Jessica Parker made $250 million from HBO for her work on “Sex and the City.”
Sarah Jessica Parker’s Real Estate
Sarah and Matthew bought a townhouse in New York City for $18.995 million in March 2011. After spending millions on repairs, they listed the home for $24.99 million in 2012 but had trouble finding a buyer who was ready to cover the cost of the modifications.
When all the costs of the refurbishment were added in, they were left with a loss of several million dollars and were obliged to sell for only $18.25 million.
Sarah and Matthew bought two adjacent townhouses in New York City for a stunning $34.5 million in 2016. A new home was built on the site, expanding its square footage to 14,000 inside, 2,100 outside, and 50 feet along the street.
They lived in a townhouse they had bought in 2000 for $2.995 million while they finished their massive New York property development project. They did some work here as well. They spent most of the two decades between the years 2000 and 2002 at this house.
The couple put their townhouse on the market for $19 million in January of 2020. Exiting took exactly one year. In the end, they settled for $15 million.
They spent a combined $6.6 million in 2006 to purchase two modest houses in the Hamptons community of Amagansett. It has also been reported that Broderick and Parker are property owners in the same region of Ireland where Matthew spent his childhood summers.
