Gomez and Nick Jonas dated about 2008 when they were both prominent figures on the Disney Channel (she on Wizards of Waverly Place and him on J.O.N.A.S. Jonas, who had previously generated lots of headlines during his relationship with Miley Cyrus, was very eager to keep their brief romance under wraps.
In a 2018 radio broadcast, Jonas and Gomez laughed about a particularly embarrassing date they had back in the day. It began when Gomez called in and asked Jonas whether he remembered her first trip to New York City’s Central Park.
“This was at a time where my brothers and I were a boy band, and we were in Central Park, and we were very private about our relationship, and she was unhappy that her Central Park experience was ruined by the fact that I walked about 20 feet away from her,” Jonas recalled in the clip.
“Even though [the paparazzi] were taking pictures of us and obviously we were there together, I was like, ‘It’d be better if we stood about 25 feet apart.’ So it ruined her Central Park experience. So her and Taylor Swift—who was dating my brother Joe, but we never confirmed it—walked 25 feet behind us as we walked through the park by ourselves.”
