The CW has let go of seven cast members, including several who have been with the show since season 1, while adding one new series regular for the upcoming fourth season of Superman & Lois. Superman & Lois is the last show on the Arrowverse network, and the third and final season is currently airing.
Superman & Lois was renewed for a second season by The CW after a long wait, albeit with some sacrifices made (such as a reduced budget).
Deadline reports that seven regulars from Superman & Lois have left the show following the announcement that they will be leaving at the end of Season 4. After Season 3, regular cast members Wolé Parks, Tayler Buck, Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Erik Valdez, Inde Navarrette, and Sofia Hasmik will leave the show, Superman & Lois.
While a return appearance as a guest star is hoped for, no concrete plans have been made as of yet. Michael Cudlitz will make his debut as Lex Luthor in the season 3 finale and season 3 finale of Superman & Lois, making him a series regular on the DC TV drama despite the departure of several performers.
Superman & Lois Season 4 Cast Cuts
Superman & Lois series regular Dylan Walsh’s wife, Leslie Bourque-Walsh, has stated that her husband will not be returning for Season 4 owing to budget cuts:
“Congrats to the families of S&L for finally getting the update of their fate. We now know General Lane was cut due to budget. It was a fun ride. Bye.”
Over the course of three seasons of Superman & Lois & Clark, Dylan Walsh played General Sam Lane.
In the show, he is Clark Kent’s father-in-law, as well as the grandpa of his sons Jonathan and Jordan Kent and Lois and Lucy’s children. Sam Lane, who heads the Department of Defense (DOD), sometimes lends a hand to Superman on his quest.
Sam came out of semi-retirement in Season 3 to replace Mitch Anderson as the DOD’s top official.
According to Deadline, The CW’s need to make a profit has led to a caveat in the renewal of Superman & Lois for a fourth season.
Since Superman & Lois is “more expensive due to extensive special effects,” reducing the number of actors involved could help the film turn a profit, as reported by Deadline. Instead, the source suggested that the CW show would focus more “heavily into its core premise as a family drama,” albeit it would still feature superheroes.
TV Line also reported that there will only be 10 episodes in Season 4 of Superman & Lois, down from 15 in Seasons 1&2 and 13 in Season 3.
What Does Season 4 of Superman & Lois Mean Without Sam Lane?
Sam Lane, played by Dylan Walsh, seems to be the show’s first casualty as Superman & Lois enters their fourth season.
For the first three seasons of Superman & Lois, General Sam Lane were a dependable friend to Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel and a pillar of the Kent family’s support system.
Superman & Lois Season 4 would be severely impacted by the loss of Lane. The character’s absence may indicate that the DOD will have a smaller role in Season 7.
Sam’s potential Season 4 absence may be addressed in the Season 3 finale. It’s possible that the actor’s character may die in the series finale, given that his wife is aware of the budget cuts and his impending departure.
Chrissy Beppo and Kyle Cushing are just two of the cast members who might not be back for Season 4 of Smallville.
I’m crossing my fingers that these folks have a decent send-off.
