Three Teens Charged in Death of 20-Year-Old Woman Killed by Rock Thrown at Her Car

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release on Wednesday that three teenagers had been detained in connection with the death of a 20-year-old Colorado woman who was murdered after a huge rock thrown at her car smashed through the glass.

According to a news conference held on Wednesday, Jacki Kelley, the sheriff’s office’s public relations officer, Alexa Bartell was killed on April 19 after several cars were struck by rocks that evening. According to the authorities, at least seven people were struck by the pebbles.

The three teenagers were detained by investigators in connection with her death on Tuesday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the three defendants, Joseph Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak, all 18 years old, are accused of first-degree murder and gross disregard. As per Kelley, the three were questioned Tuesday night.

The press statement stated that the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado would handle any additional charges. The three will stay in jail until their initial court appearance, which is scheduled for Thursday, where they will be “advised of the charges against them,” according to Kelley.

The arrests were made as a consequence of “cellphone device forensics,” Kelley claimed on Wednesday. In the middle of the night, authorities informed Bartell’s family about the arrests, Kelley continued.

“They’re just so grateful,” Kelley said while talking about Bartell’s family. “They’re still suffering from the greatest loss possible, but this is the beginning of the journey that they’ll be on next.

“This case touched a lot of people deeply. This was a beautiful young woman with her whole life in front of her who was simply driving home,” Kelley said.
