The anthology crime drama True Detective is returning with exciting new episodes. Season 4 of True Detective may be called True Detective: Night Country, but the cast and showrunner are the only things that haven’t changed. One constant, though, is the presence of a chilling mystery for the protagonists (and readers) to ponder.
Starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, True Detective quickly rose to prominence after its 2014 premiere. With returning cast members Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly, season 2 of True Detective premiered in 2015.
With fresh writers at the helm and a stellar cast that included Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy, Ray Fisher, and Mamie Gummer, it wasn’t until 2019 that True Detective finally returned for a third season.

Is True Detective Season 4 Confirmed?
The confirmation of True Detective season 4 is the most significant development for viewers. There was significant doubt as to whether or not the show would return for a fourth season after Season 3 concluded in February 2019.
True Detective season 4 was confirmed in March 2022, with Barry Jenkins serving as executive producer and Issa López penning the episodes. It has been reported that True Detective creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto will not be returning for Season 4.

True Detective Season 4 Release Date
Season 4 of True Detective will be broadcast on HBO in 2023, but at that point in the year is unknown.
Season 4 of True Detective has been in development since November 2022, so it may be a long before it debuts on HBO; our best guess is late 2023.

Season 4 Trailer for True Detective
In April 2023, a trailer for Season 4 of True Detective was published, although the release date was left vague.
The events of Night Country will take place in Alaska’s Arctic during the long winter when the sun never comes up. Clearly, it takes the tired old tack of having two mismatched detectives who despise each other work together to solve a difficult case.
