For the first time since the fatal April 10 shooting at Old National Bank, the rookie Louisville police officer who was wounded in the head has made eye contact.
Officer Nick Wilt took a “huge step forward” in his recuperation, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department, WLKY reported.
Only a few days into his job, Wilt was shot in the head while responding to a shooting at the bank. The incident resulted in the deaths of five bank employees and injuries to numerous others.
Wilt was one of two cops that responded to the incident, according to WDRB. He had worked four shifts with the force by that point.
Since the shooting on April 10, he has been listed in critical condition and required brain surgery.
In a statement released by Wilt’s family and distributed by the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, it was said that Nick was improving and moving closer to recovery. He is fighting valiantly, and we are so proud of him.
His medical professionals are striving to wean him off the devices that have aided in his recovery.
