Here’s what you need to know as Texas faces some challenging weather conditions Tuesday.
Wind advisory and its impacts
Expect strong south winds Tuesday, upwards of 25 to 35 mph. Wind gusts may go up to 40 mph, which could potentially cause some tree limbs to disrupt power lines.
The wind advisory is active from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., so securing outdoor items and preparing for possible power disruptions is advised.
Timing of today’s strongest winds:
As the sun rises through the day, it will stir up the stronger winds above the surface, mixing down to the surface. Think of it like mixing cake ingredients, the flour has to be mixed with the eggs and sugar. While they can all start off as separate layers, something comes and stirs them up, mixing them. The atmosphere works the same way. That’s why we’ll see wind gusts that can climb to 30-40 mph late afternoon.
Fire danger and red flag warnings
With high fire danger across southeastern Texas and red flag warnings in the Panhandle, the risk for fires remains elevated. These warnings might stick around until at least Wednesday morning.
Staying vigilant and adhering to fire safety measures is crucial during this period as we won’t see much rain throughout the next 7-10 days.
